How can we conserve the environment?
This coming April, we will celebrate Earth Day, and people around the world need to do their part to protect our planet and make it a better world to live in. Humans are not the only who are suffering from climate change but every living thing on it. There are a lot of ways that we can protect Earth and prevent further depletion of the ozone layer.
What is an ozone layer?
The ozone layer protects the Earth from the sun’s destructive ultraviolet B or UVB rays. It is situated at about 9.3 to 18.6 miles above our planet. Unlike before, too much exposure can cause different kinds of skin cancer and cataracts. Even the reproductive cycle of animals and phytoplankton are affected due to the sun’s harmful radiation.
The thinning of the ozone layer is due to the emission of Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs that usually came from aerosols and other chemicals. Once the CFCs made contact with the UVB rays, the process of breaking down the compounds including chlorine will begin. The combination of chlorine and oxygen atoms causes the hole in the ozone layer. Icebergs in the Arctic region are beginning to melt and are feared to create massive flooding.
Protect the Earth in many ways
Reforestation. Planting a tree for every tree cut is the topmost choice to protect the planet. Trees not only provide shelter and food. It also gives out oxygen for fresh air while absorbing carbon dioxide that causes air pollution.
Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Old water bottles (glass and plastics), should not be thrown in the garbage because these can be reused or recycled. These plastics can reach the ocean, and sea creatures such as turtles tend to eat them and might die of choking.
Sharing the knowledge. Most people are not aware that they are damaging Earth or just don’t care at all. If you have the knowledge and the passion for saving the planet, sharing with it others so they would know that saving Mother Earth means saving our future as well.
Avoid chemical use as much as possible. A majority of the chemicals that we use in the home, on the farm, and in the industrialized environment, often use a large volume of harmful chemicals. These chemicals can create a huge impact not only on the planet but also in our health, animal production, and others. Instead of using pesticides, farmers can mix their own natural herbicides to eradicate pests, thus, saving the lives of insects and birds and prevents the contamination of crops and waterways.
Conserve water. We cannot live without water and consume water is a part of our daily routine. Without clean water, we cannot live a healthy life. All that we have are diseases and plants, trees, and animals cannot live either on polluted and contaminated water. Do not thaw frozen food with running water and turn off the water when brushing teeth.
You have a big part in the conservation and protection of the planet that provides life. Without planet Earth, where will you be? Finding another habitable planet is not the answer like what others are figuring out. Protect the planet and it will protect you too.
